I've just watched Mr B's awesome new version of 21 Days Later and I'm wiping the tears of mirth from my eyes. The re-edited, rejigged, re-soundtracked version seems a whole different world compared to the hurried, bare bones version we put out with issue 3 of the magazine back in 2006. That was a 20-min promo clip, this is a film. B's editing and production skills are sublime and he's created an amazing package from a pretty huge stock of footage from the trip but what makes the DVD for me are the extras. Surf DVD extras aren't something you'll normally trouble yourself with but it's worth buying this purely for the commentary version...

If you're looking for some new tunes to get you through the summer months then look no further. We've done the hard bit for you and can thoroughly recommend the following albums. Little Boots self-titled debut is a gorgeous mish-mash of poppy 80s electro, Enter Shikari blend hardcore and trance (it may sound mental but it does work- you'll have heard the single 'Juggernaut' on the radio- got the singer that sounds a lot like Mike Skinner from the Streets), Florence + The Machine's Lungs is the debut album of the year so far and a good bet for the Mercury prize I reckon, it's utterly blinding indie pop and finally Kasabian drop their second long player and have no trouble with 'that difficult second album' it rocks. So there you go. Fresh tunes. Check 'em out...

Don't know about you cats out their in interweb land but I am getting VERY excited about the new Transformers movie... Check out the new HD trailer at the Apple site. Fleshes things out a bit more from the moody cinema trailer that's doing the rounds. Can't wait. Comes out June 19th and will be on at the IMAX in London, I'll be there with bells on. As for the new Terminator flick- pffffft.
In other news Bob Martinez won Chopes. Good job Bob. Now there's a big old gap in the tour til the Brazil event at the end of June... The Euro leg is going to be the deciding factor this year and it's going to be a brutal slog as there are three back to back WCT's- France, Spain & Rip Curl's Atlantic Search event. Which whilst they are doing their best to put us off the scent I've got on good authority is going to be at Peniche in Portugal... Not that 'searchy' really but then again Padang wasn't exactly off the map. Whatever, it means I'm going to be on the road for a month straight shooting which can only be a good thing...

You know sometimes you go to the cinema and come out feeling like you've been royally cornholed? Well that was my Wolverine experience. Sucks cos I liked the X-Men films. It was a story we already knew stretched too far. It was just real clunky and didn't work at all even though it looked good... Only good bit was the Gambit character they shoehorned into the plot. In essence if you've seen the trailer you've seen the film. Chicks will dig it purely cos of Beefcake Jackman or whatever his name is.

If you're looking for something good to stick in your ears then grab the recent album from Manchester's Doves. Their fourth album finds them in fine form continuing the brooding indie noise that's become their trademark, there's a finer pop sensibility to this long player though that might help them make the breakthrough like Elbow did last year from 'music fan fave' to mainstream acceptance and sales. It's a good starting point of you want to explore their back catalogue as well, all of which are worth getting...

Nicholas Gurewitch is a genius. A twisted, warped, fucked up, 25-year old, son of a bitch but a genius all the same. His Perry Bible Fellowship cartoons are bizarre, sublime, weird, hugely entertaining and make admirable use of the three panel cartoon format. In three or four pics he can convey a movies worth of entertainment. For a preview check the new book out (it's a complete collection of the now semi-retired strip) I've got it and it's a treat, the kind of book you can't read in company cos you sit there chuckling. There's also the PBF site...

For those of you of a musical persuasion may I encourage you to check out Metric. They are awesome. If you're of surfing type then you'll know the Monster Hospital tune from Taj's section on Stranger Than Fiction (cruelly edited and shortened... grrr Kai!) that's from their last long player Live It Out. Their new one Fantasies is out end of April, I've been digging it for the last week, not because I robbed an advance copy off the bit torrents or anything but cos like NIN and Kristin Hersh Metric are like super web savvy. They've been offering fans a sick deal on their website- for the price of a CD you got three exclusive tracks straight off the bat, the MP3 version of the album when it came out last week and a proper deluxe CD job end of the month when it comes out physically. So there. Cunning buggers. The music biz is changing and if you know your beans as a band it's gonna be good times. Those with talent will shine through...
