North Shore Day-1... No offence to Hawai'i but I hate the first day here. Nothing to do with the place or the waves it's just the frickin' time zone. 10-hours behind the Queens own Greenwich Mean Time it is and that's a right shitter. Meaning 10pm in Hawai'i is 8am GMT- so you're trying to go to sleep when your body clock is expecting to be waking up. The boffins call this phenomenon 'jet lag'. The only known cure is prodigious amounts of coffee.
The pain is also eased by walking down the hill from the rented house above Sunset, taking a right and tootling down passed the O'Neill World Cup event to Ted's Bakery and ingesting a bacon and egg roll. A North Shore staple the Ted's B&E (pictured above) is as close to perfect a breakfast bap as you will find- crisp bacon, slightly runny fried egg, a slice of cheese all in a warm granary bap served by the friendly staff at Ted's. It is in short- glorious. There's not much that cures jet lag but it does take your mind off it for a bit. Apart from that there's not a whole lot to report, the surf wasn't worth shooting at Sunset today there may have been a few decent hits at OTW this evening but motivation and coherent mental thought was sadly lacking. I did wander down to Foodland to get half a carrier bags worth of food for £11. No change there... literally.
It looks like there's a whole heap of swell brewing with a 20ft+ swell called for the weekend and a whopper for early next week (sniff the Pacific period WAMs for an idea) so things should be getting interesting (the word 'Eddie' is being mentioned in hushed tones). In the meantime I'm gonna do what I'm best at and sleep, well, be in bed anyway. I need to de-lag as soon as possible so I can get my game face on...
This is the view from the deck of the rented pad. Landed on me feet slightly eh?
This is OTW mid-arvo halfway along my walk to Foodland with Miss Griggi of Carve...
The 2nd most expensive supermarket in the world. But it's okay cos it has a 'Bucks... and women in bikinis which is always a bonus.
