In normal CT events (that's all of them except the Pipe masters) there no alternates. I guess this rule doesn't apply during the Triple crown events...¿?

Rules are rules. Thats a pretty clear definition. The rules in the MSA's Blue book for motor racing are often open to interpretation. That seems pretty clear.
And when have the bloody French stuck to ANY rules??

I wouldn't be surprised if the ASP hasn't got around to writing rules for the new(ish) dual heat format yet!
Be interested to know what the deal was with Adriano v Flynn Novak in R3. Adriano was 5mins late but was still able to surf. Maybe he checked in but didn't get out there until after heat start?

So by the Hawaiians insisting on loads of local wildcards (instead of the normal ASP 4) they've unintentionally managed to bugger Sunny for being late? Normal ASP rules don't apply? Hoisted by their own petard. Bet he's spewing as that's the Triple Crown $50,000 up in smoke and you know he'd still be in the event with him owning Backdoor...

Spoke to the ASP- it's because he is not a seeded top-45 surfer. If he was he woulda been fine. It's because he was a wildcard that an alternate got his spot.

I thought it was tough for Sunny, he could have done with that 50k to pay his taxes.........
