Now I've not been to Sri Lanka... Indo and the Maldives, yes, many times but I've never made it to Sri Lanka. That's all set to change next week when I'm out there for the UK Pro Tour Champion of Champions event. Am looking forward to it and not just because of the tea or the thumping forecast. So being a good traveller I asked some of the pro's a few pertinent questions, my main concerns if you will-
1. Describe the wave at Arugam Bay.
2. Is Sri Lanka the hottest place you've ever been? And if so how do you cope?
3. Are there elephants? and of so is elephant dung an issue at night?
4. Is there any food apart from curry? and as someone that's not really into curry will I starve?

1. A fast, super-playful, right-hand, point-break with a sand-covered reef bottom.
2. So hot its not funny, way hotter then Indo! You find yourself surfing early till mid morning then sitting under a fan waiting for the late evening surf so you dont get three degree burns from the sun.
3. Lots of elephants, not at the beach, so you dont get much dung where your staying but if they poo on the road that your driving on you will probally have to drive around. It's like a very large, smelly boulder has fallen out of their back end.
4. I believe curry in a hot country equals tap arse! Where you pee out your bum like its got a tap attached to it. You can get all sorts of food, burgers for Sharpy, fried chicken for me. Same rules apply as any third world country, if you don't see a fridge don't eat the meat same as if the power doesnt run 24hrs. The street shops at A-bay are really good as you see them cook your food so you know what kind of dog they are serving you...

1. Dusty isolation meets shredable right wall.
2. It's so hot you sweat when you eat, answer- lots of water, no beer!
3. Yes there are elephants but they have a curfew of 18:30!
4. Lots of food and its not all spicy...

1. Goes from right to left, sandy, wet, lots of wiggle sections.
2. Yes it is. I wear a homemade portable shower on my head, wear speedos at all times, and smear elephant dung over my skin to protect against the sun.
3. Yes, and there were no street lights last time we went- I remember walking through town barefoot one night... I can still feel it squelching between my toes.
4. There's plenty of cockroaches in the rooms, not too hard to catch if you feel like something different.
